The gender gap in computer science classrooms will continue to persist until we can create the supports needed for ALL students to develop positive STEM identities. While there is abundant research on engaging girls and underrepresented minority students, educators need specific practices for the classroom. Since 2010 the SciGirls Strategies have been used by over 3,000 formal and informal educators in STEM and CS classrooms. After two years of reviewing research, the updated SciGirls Strategies are available. The SciGirls Strategies provide specific practices for engaging girls in STEM with detailed tips that allow any educator to easily implement them in their classroom. This session will introduce attendees to the new strategies and include time to discuss how to apply the practices in their classroom. Participants will leave the session with a copy of the strategies and inspiration to develop new gender equitable and culturally responsive computer science programming.
